At Compass Point we provide child care and education for 0-11 year olds from 8 am until 6 pm.

What is a children's centre?
Children’s centres are service hubs where children under five years old and their families can receive lots of different services and information. By 2010, every community will be served by a Children’s Centre, offering permanent universal provision across the country, ensuring that every child gets the best start in life.
These services may include:
- Integrated early education and childcare
- Support for parents - including advice on parenting, family support, support groups, local childcare options and access to specialist services for families.
- Child and family health services - ranging from health screening, speech therapy, health visitor services to breast-feeding support.
- Helping parents into work - with links to the local Job centre Plus and training.
The vision is that every child and young person should have the opportunity to fulfil their potential. They are a vital part of the Government’s ten-year childcare strategy to enable all families with children to have access to an affordable, flexible, high-quality childcare place for their child.

The Early Years team at South Street Primary have gained 'The Bristol Standard' , a quality assurance scheme for early years settings across the city. The self-evaluation framework is designed to help nurseries, pre-schools, reception classes and child-minders to reflect on, assess and improve their practice.
The Bristol Standard has received national acclaim and been accredited with Quality Assurance Status under the national Investors in Children scheme.
In December 2006 Early Years achieved the "Bristol Inclusion Standard" for recognition of our inclusive policies and practice.
